    Support-Group Member Asks:

    Hi everyone,

I'm getting kind of scared. I don't know how long I should let this go...but, my sugar level has been around 200 or 220...I'm faithfully exercising (for the last couple days). I don't have insurance...I'm not on medication or anything. I'm hoping it will start coming down soon. Can you tell me what some of you eat on an everyday basis? Do I have reason to be afraid? I want to get this down on my own, without mediciation. Is it possible and how long does it take?

    Support-Group Member Responds:

    Good morning,

I don't mean to scare you any more than you already are but, yes, bs numbers at 200 or more ARE a reason to worry. Exercise alone will not help and if you have already been watching your carbohydrates and exercising and the numbers are still at 200 or more, you may need more help! BS at that level will start to cause damage to your body. You should probably check with your doctor-----maybe he/she will have some samples of medication to try you on.

I, too, have been trying to hold off on taking medication for diabetes--but believe if my number creep up to 200 or more, I won't have a choice anymore.

    Please don't wait too long.

    Another Support-Group Member Responds:

One thing you could do is check around at your local diabetes clinics and see if they have any trials going on. These usually involve already approved medications for diabetics, they are usually studying amounts or combinations. Not only do they give you monitors and medications, they most often Pay you!

Exercising for a couple of days is not going to give you the results you desire, it takes time, I have been going to a fitness center almost everyday now for a month and a half, doing 30 minutes of cardio training (i ride the bike for twenty minutes then walk on the treadmill for 10) I am just now seeing a small drop in my blood sugars.

    Good luck
