Subject: Diabetes Type II second opinion

Dear Group,

I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes about 4 years ago. It was a devastating blow to me and I think I have been in denial every since. I would half-heartedly to control my diet but when that and meds did not make a difference so I decided to just ignore the problem and eat as I please. I would go back to healthy eating when my blood sugar increased dramatically. Then I started experiencing bouts when my blood sugar would plummet to about 58. I have experienced this 3-4 times, (usually while I am working in the yard or out shopping.) Anyway, my blood sugar has never been under control, bouncing from 198 to near 400. However my healthcare provider never seemed too concerned that my A1c is always over 6.0 and I figured maybe this diabetes isnt that serious after all.

Now during the last several months I have been feeling extremely lousy, my vision is blurred more often than not and my blood sugar runs 262 to 300. My healthcare provider was not taking any other actions so I took it upon myself to seek out an Endocrinologist. He made a change in medication (noting he has 3 options in mind right away.) I will go back for a recheck next week.

My message here is seek further assistance if you do not see improvement or if your healthcare provider seems less than concerned. Sometimes a fresh new eye on the situation is what is needed.

Just call me Allie...

I can not exercise as in walking, running, etc. but I ride my recumbant bike. I try to stay on a diet but it is hard. I need help with free snacks and what is the best medicine?

Thanks,

Allie

Subject: Diabetes & steroids?

I am diabetic due to taking steriods for other health problems. My weight is a problem. I diet but cant seem to shed the weight, it is very discouraging. Is anyone else on steriods that has any weightloss success or ideas.

Subject: How do I help my husband?

Hi,

My husband has recently been told he is converting to diabetic. He is having severe symptoms (like hes drunk) but he is not on meds and he is a Paramedic. His sugar is everywhere. Should he be on meds by now... How do I help?

Hello Krista,

Make a doctors appointment to access his health. Ask the doctor for a referral to a diabetes education class in your area. These classes are usually taught by nurses, dietitians, etc. They cover the basics such as testing, carbohydrate counting, medications, and more. You and your husband might find other people in the class experiencing the same problems.

Good luck to you.

Christine
